UNITED NATIONS MEETS LIONS INTERNATIONAL
(in NEW YORK)

Lions International are extremely proud to have a long standing relationship as a consultative NGO (Non Government Organisation) to the United Nations (UN).

Starting in 1945 when Lions leaders were asked to help develop the NGO charter for the UN, we have been meeting annually in the USA and and in other UN sites, since.

Lions International is the only service organisation which is afforded this honour and highlights the respect which our organisation has amongst the International Community.

Nearly 850 Lions and Leos from 36 countries attended the last annual Lions Day with the United Nations held on Saturday, March 4, 2017. Attendees convened in the prestigious General Assembly Hall at the UN Headquarters in New York City, New York, USA.

With a theme of health and inclusion, the program highlighted our partnership with Special Olympics and showed how unified sports can help to achieve several of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

In addition, a memorandum of understanding was jointly signed by LCI and UN Women to align both organizations around gender equality issues. This signing ceremony showed how UN Women and Lions have continued to makes strides with gender equality and peace since last year’s event.
